Japanese hardware sales, February 20 – 26: Greatest idea ever edition

We're totally in love with the idea of creating fighting games based on other gaming IPs. Arc System Work's Persona 4 Arena is looking really solid, for instance, but if you'd asked us which gaming universe should be turned into a fighter, Persona wouldn't have been our first answer. This got us thinking, what other unlikely universe might make a totally rad fighting game?

The answer, as we're sure you'll agree, is obvious: The complete works of Hayao Miyazaki. Can't you just see it? Princess Mononoke squares off against Nausicaä of the Valley in an all out, over the top, no-holds-barred battle for cinematic supremacy! Laputa Gardener Robot vs. Ō-Totoro! Kiki vs. Porco Rosso! Yubaba vs. Moro no Kimi! There can be Cat Bus DLC and everything.

Hell, No Face is practically in BlazBlue already. Let's make this happen, Arc System Works.

Worlds collide as Super Mario Bros and Portal become Mari0 (video)

Remember when the amalgamation of Super Mario Bros and a Portal gun seemed like the most amazing, yet impossibly lucid pipe dream? As it turns out, the cake named "Mari0" by developer-house Stabyourself actually wasn't a lie. But lest you thought this just a redo of Super Mario Bros with a skosh of Aperture science thrown in, you'd be oh-so-wrong. How's about four-player co-op, in addition to a level editor and a bevy of hilarious modes that'll put a new twist on an old favorite. And could it get any better than available for the sweet sweet price of free? If that's not a ringing endorsement, we don't know what is. If you're still reading this, we're unsure why you're still here -- get your game on at the source link below.

Street Fighter x Tekken characters raid each other’s wardrobes in DLC

During an event this weekend, Capcom showed off even more crossover costumes for Street Fighter X Tekken, allowing you to dress your Tekken characters like Street Fighter characters and vice versa.

Examples of the new set include Paul Phoenix as Rufus, Lili as Poison, Xiaoyu as Alpha-style Chun Li, and Vega as Yoshimitsu. These will be released as post-launch DLC, presumably along with the other costumes we've seen. We're going to need more news on that R. Mika costume for Kuma, and soon.
