Raspberry Pi credit-card sized Linux PCs are on sale now, $25 Model A gets a RAM bump

The good news is that Raspberry Pi's highly anticipated teeny-tiny Linux computers are on sale now, just barely making the promised February launch window (good thing it's a leap year). The better news, is that the $25 Model A version has gotten an upgrade from the planned 128Mb of RAM to 256Mb matching the Model B, which still throws in an extra USB port and an Ethernet hookup for $10 more. Unfortunately there is some bad news as well, while the Model A is going into production "immediately", cheapskates will have to hold off a little, as the Model B is the only one on sale right now. Built on a Broadcom BCM2835 700MHz ARM11 processor, they're intended as a cheap computing option that require only a keyboard and RCA or HDMI-connected display to give a full desktop experience including gaming and HD video playback . The team also announced it has secured manufacturing and distribution agreements that should guarantee a steady supply, without the previous limitation of 10,000 at a time batches. Need more technical details? Hit the FAQ page below, or put down a few Hamiltons -- they can be ordered directly from distributors Premier Farnell / Element 14 and RS Components -- and find out how it runs (Fedora, Debian and ArchLinux are currently supported) for yourself.

Update: It appears the servers of both retailers are completely crushed by traffic at the moment, and we're told RS will ship in the UK only. Good luck in your struggle with that most difficult of questions: Keep mashing F5, or get some sleep and try again in the morning? Raspberry Pi's Twitter account reports Farrell appears to have already sold out, so keep that in mind. A press release and video demo from the BBC follow after the break.

Mojang acquires Minecraft mod makers, will make mods official

The four main developers behind Bukkit, a popular set of unofficial modifications for Minecraft servers, have been hired on by Mojang, makers of the uber popular block-world simulator. Mojang says Warren Loo, Erik Broes, Nathan Adams and Nathan Gilbert will join the company to update Bukkit and make it more compatible with the next version of the game, and to enable support other server mods in the future.

Loo writes on the official forms that the team will basically redesign the game's API, which means unofficial developers everywhere will be able to hook into the game's mechanics much more easily and smoothly. Mojang points out that there are a few teams that have made popular mods for the game, including Spout and Forge, but the Bukkit team was chosen because they've developed specifically for Minecraft servers. The plan is to have them working on "more than just modding."

Obviously, the gentlemen are quite excited about joining the Mojang guys. That tends to happen when a company whose game you work on for free decides to start paying you in real money.

PSN Tuesday: Killzone 3 Multi, Reality Fighters demo, Gamers’ Choice

Cast your vote for which PSN games you'd like to see discounted -- that's what the Gamers' Choice Awards boil down to. (And choosing which ones are the best or whatever.) You can start doing that today with the PS Store update.

Also joining us today: Killzone 3's free-to-play, standalone multiplayer is available for download. If we must find ourselves stuck in something called "Killzone," we'd rather not have to pay for it, as that sounds unpleasant and dangerous. Other PS3 releases include a new PSN game called Storm, and PSN releases of retail games Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Medieval Moves: Deadmund's Quest.

On Vita, you can check out a demo of the upcoming Reality Fighters, along with Touch My Katamari, Dynasty Warriors Next, and ModNation Racers. And you can finally get a dedicated Vita Foursquare app.

NYC’s WPIX resurrects Intellivision gaming segment for Morning News

WPIX
Those of you out there over the age of about 26 who live in the New York metro area might remember a popular call-in segment on WPIX. During day time children's programming, like the classic Magic Garden, viewers were encouraged to dial in and play a simple Intellivision game by shouting "PIX" to fire at falling blobs. Well, the TV station is bringing it back courtesy of a console direct from creator Keith Robinson. Only now, instead of calling, participants will be brought into the studio live to shout alongside the anchors. We're already trying to figure out how to get ourselves on the list. Check out a retro commercial promoting the segment after the break.

There’s ‘Zero Escape’ for 999 fans on 3DS and Vita

Aksys Games and Chunsoft are springing a deathtrap on us all, with another really cool in-game watch to look at. The game we know as "Extreme Escape Adventure: Good People Die", a semi-sequel to 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, is officially coming to North America ("by year's end") as Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward.

The adventure game will be sold on both 3DS and Vita (and both digitally and retail on Vita) and will feature extensive voice acting. You'll be able to play in both English and Japanese, so you can practice your Japanese reading while you try to save a group of strangers from a nefarious game of death.
