On the front line of national security…

So, I was privy to a Strategic National Stockpile meeting today. Basically this is a meeting where the people in charge of the state (and on a larger scale, the nation) hold meetings and talk about disasters and what to have set aside for such emergencies … it really got me to realize that Americans take ALOT of stuff for granted — disaster recovery and pre-planning being one of them. I mean, something like New Orleans hits and everyone expects things to just be taken care of … but the people that have to do that are just like us and basically sit around and do what-ifs … it makes SO much more sense now to me on a grand scale as to why Katrina has such woes … prior to that, Texas had not evac’d for a hurricane at all, but due to Katrina they played it safe and we did the evac for Rita … but it’s a process that people have to learn. Just sucks that we take it for granted sometimes — disaster planning is a hard game to play with no room for error and as humans, error has to be expected.

ok… perhaps not on the scale that we saw during Katrina, but a litle at least …
